movie talk: romeo and juliet

So the past few months, I've gotten really deep into Shakespeare's works. I adore him a whole lot, and lately I've read the original Romeo and Juliet script over and over, I've even got some of them memorized. I read some of his poems and sonnets (by far my favorite is sonnet #18 and #138). I also watched movies which are adapted from his plays, and so did I watch two of the most famous Romeo and Juliet adaption, which are the 1968 version and the 1996 version.
Honestly, I already knew the 1996 version way before I got into this Shakespeare addiction, but I just haven't got the time to watch the film. But in the end, I watched the 1968 version first, and it turned out that I love it a lot! I also think that Olivia Hussey is beyond pretty! She is very gorgeous and flawless and beautiful and and and, I think she is the finest Juliet in the whole universe, She puts all of the future Juliets into shame because of her beauty. Her hair is amazing

Oh and I also (finally) found out the title of the theme song of the movie (a time for us/what is a youth), back then I used to play this piano sheet my teacher gave me, I played it everyday and loved it to bits. But then I quit my piano course and kinda lost most of my sheets, and unfortunately also forgot the name of the song. ok, moving on.. after I finished the 68's version, I can't wait to watch the 96's like crazy, I love the official movie poster very much and thought it was going to be fantastic and might be better than the 68's. Well, turns out that I.. am not very keen of it. If you really knew the original play very well, this version is VERY confusing.. It doesn't make sense. With all of the modern vibes, this should've brought a new elucidation to the new audiences but nah. I am a pretty big fan of Dicaprio but nope. The ending is pretty cool but yet I still dislike this movie like, a lot. Started off okay but then just got worse and worse. I'd rate it two stars as in, 'lol what'. It's kinda corny, It's all corny. The newer one was more like spoof in my eyes. The 68's was actually true to the point of the play, To me they're just too different to compare. I guess it would depend on if you like the real tension of Shakespeare's version or if you like comedy. If I had to pick I'd say the older one because I think the newer one was meant to be funny but I didn't actually find it funny. They tried to tell the story to the audiences by modernized it but in fact they actually missed a lot of points from the original story. But then again, they were using the original Shakespeare's script which makes everything very odd because they're using their own accents and didn't even try to speak the sentences properly. Well, I really love the way Hussey and the Zac Efron wannabe, Whiting did it. I also hate the fact that Juliet's dad didn't even cry in the 96's, because I actually cried when her family mourned for her death in the 68's. Oh! and in the newer one, her maid was supposed to be her lovable friend. even though she was nice at some scenes but still, that was not how a friend supposed to be. you know what, I can go on for forever. oh well, at least the fish tank scene is pretty.
